Google Translate-You can download a certain language while you have Wi-Fi and use it offline. It is perfect for when you are wondering what that sauce on the menu is made of OR when you wonder what the lady at the grocery store just said to you.

Google Maps-You can also select a certain area and download the map. Unless you have an abroad data plan, this will be a life saver.

Netflix-Depending on which country you are in, the movies will change. I have even found movies that are currently in theatres in American. You can download them too. Train rides are made less miserable with a few movies to pass the time.

Go Euro or now called Omio-This app asks for a departure, destination, and dates. It then sorts your options by train, airplane, or bus. Then they list them by cheapest and fastest. It makes everything so simple.

Hostel World-This app allows you to select a location and dates. The app then lists them by distance to the city center. You can select which rooms you want or how many beds. Hostels are the best way to travel around Europe on a budget.

Rick Steves Audio Europe-Rick Steves is like your grandfather that loves to read books, the newspaper, and maybe watch the history channel too much. This app has podcasts that you can download that are audio tours led by Rick. This is the best way to skip the costly tour guides but still learn about your new city.

Yelp-My favorite feature of Yelp is that you can search which restaurants are “OPEN NOW”. Italians love to eat extremely late. Restaurants open from 7pm-11pm. When you are traveling outside of your host country, it can be difficult to know when they tend to eat.

Libby -This app allows you to log in with your local library card. Then you are able to “loan” ebooks and audiobooks. The books can be downloaded so you won’t be using data.
I use these apps daily! You’ll have more time to learn, navigate, and explore your new town. Now get to traveling!
